Find out what a RAND School class is like. Join us for “The Fine Print of Policy” with Professor Angela O'Mahony as we explore the question, “When a policy directive is issued, what decisions are still left to make?"

A policy directive may establish a goal, but putting it into practice requires decisions about rules, exceptions, and how to handle situations the policy doesn't explicitly address. In this interactive exercise, participants will work through realistic cases to explore how those choices shape the way a policy is applied. They'll get a taste of how policy analysts examine discretion, organizational rules, and the practical decisions that connect a policy mandate to the people it affects.
